Enjoy Free Days!

It's been so nice this week here in Denver with temperatures in the 60's, that it's been hard to sit at the computer or to start any new repurposing projects. Especially after being cooped up inside last week with a cold, I just had to get outside. So Tuesday I took advantage of the free day at the Denver Zoo. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, it felt like spring. I took a lot of pictures of the animals, but this was my favorite shot. It looks like this bear was enjoying the spring-like day too.
If you live in the Denver area check out the free days for the Denver Zoo, Denver Art Museum, Denver Museum of Nature and Science and the Denver Botanic Gardens. If you don't live in Denver then check out the free days for your city by searching (free days your city). With the economy the way it is every little bit helps.

Homemade Heart Cookies and Valentines Day Cards

My youngest son is in his last year of elementary school and this probably will be the last Valentines Day party at school. So we made some yummy frosted heart cookies using Martha's recipe and heart bookmark cards for his classmates. The bookmarks were simply red strips of paper with a hole punched at the top for ribbon, a red glitter heart and a small heart punched at the bottom for decoration. And then he just signed his name on the back. I think these were a great alternative to the boring standard Valentines Day cards and we had a lot of fun making them.

Memories From The Heart Collage!

I did this in Photoshop and thought I'd post it for Valentines day. I call it "Memories From The Heart". The original photo was taken at the Denver Botanical Gardens. Standing at the very back of the covered walkway are my 3 youngest boys. This was taken about 7 years ago so it brings back memories from when they were little. I added the heart frame for love and a vintage watch for the past.

Hearts have been broken-be playful - Collage compartment wood box .

I love making collages using different containers, pieces of papers, pictures and little trinkets to create a theme. Here is a collage that I made with images of love in reds and golds, the wood box has four compartments with different sentiments of love.

Valentines Day Gifts and Cards to Make

Not far from where I live in Denver there's a little diy boutique called Fancy Tiger. I walk by it every week but have only gone in once. They carry a nice assortment of yarns and fabrics and even have classes. I happened upon their blog and found this really cute idea for Valentines day, felted conversation hearts. Check out Fancy Tiger along with directions on how to make the felted conversation hearts. I think that I will be stopping in more often.
At Hearts Hearts Hearts you will find a vast array of Valentines Day Heart Crafts including links to instructions on how to make Swedish paper hearts, origami hearts, paper heart gift box, nail heart art and diy valentines day cards to print or make. Below is a photo I took of a collection of vintage valentine cards, a heart box and assorted red and heart objects. You can save this photo and print it out for a valentines day card for your special sweetheart.
